A Review of the Char-Broil K6B 6-Burner Gas Grill with Side Burner

Website design By BotEap.comMy husband and I recently tested the Char-Broil K6B 6 Burner 65,000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner over a three week period. We did this so that we can provide a detailed review to anyone considering purchasing this model. We made it a point to use this unit frequently during the review period, to get a good idea of how it performs with regular use. Here is my review.

Website design By BotEap.comFirst off, this Char-Broil 6-Burner Gas Grill is about $385, including shipping costs. That may seem like it puts this gas grill in the high-end category, but it’s also important to consider the size of this unit. It has a main cooking area of 650 square inches, not including the additional space on the included warming rack. The Weber Genesis, which will set you back around $950, is considered a very large grill with its main cooking area measuring 507 square inches. Taking that into consideration, Char-Broil offers a great cooking area for under $400.

Website design By BotEap.comI ordered my new Char-Broil gas grill online and it was shipped right to my door, taking the hassle out of figuring out how to get it home. This grill is large and heavy and would not easily fit in my car. This unit weighs in at about 150 pounds, which leads me to believe it’s built with decent heavy-duty materials. That’s not as heavy as the $1,000 models that tend to weigh closer to 200 pounds, but at this lower price, you wouldn’t expect this grill to weigh that much.

Website design By BotEap.comMy husband and I began the assembly process. There were a lot of parts and the assembly was pretty easy, but it took about an hour with the two of them working together. The instructions state that assembly should take an hour; I would just say that that is only possible if you have someone to help you.

Website design By BotEap.comOnce assembled, I was amazed at how big this unit is! I was expecting it to be big, but it is something to behold in person. This is the kind of gas grill that inspires you to throw a party. So that’s just what we did. The following weekend we organized an outdoor party for about 50 people. The Char-Broil performed like a champ. There was no problem with continuous operation for hours and you can put a large amount of food on this grill at one time. We never had to tell anyone to wait when they ordered a burger or corn on the grill, even though part of the grill had slower-cooking items like baked potatoes for much of the party. And this grill impressed us more than my husband and I. We had many guests who not only complimented this Char-Broil, but asked how they could get one for themselves. This is one awesome looking unit. It has a very modern look, with shiny stainless steel and black metal. The lid is very well curved. The knobs are sturdy and solid. The cooking grates are made of heavy-duty, porcelain-coated cast iron. And of course, everyone is impressed by the sheer mass of a grill of this size.

Website design By BotEap.comMy husband and I cook outside regularly during the warm months. We tend to think of our gas grill as our outdoor oven. This unit works fine in that capacity, but there are two things that make it not an ideal outdoor oven. First of all, it takes a long time to heat up, since the cooking box is huge. Second, maintaining a sustained temperature throughout the cookbox for a long time to bake something uses up quite a bit of propane. I know a lot of people use their gas grills for more traditional grilled items like steaks or burgers, so this won’t be a problem for most grills. However, it is something to keep in mind if you like to bake all summer outdoors.

Website design By BotEap.comThis unit has a side burner. It works well, and the flame isn’t prone to blowing out in the wind like some side burners on cheap grills do.

Website design By BotEap.comThis Char-Broil gas grill has a sear station, which basically means it has an overheat burner in addition to the regular six burners. This allows you to sear things like steaks thoroughly before finishing them off in a cooler section of the cooking area. My husband and I found this option to work well. The large size of this unit also allows us to brown larger items. One day, my husband seared a whole bone-in leg of lamb that he finished cooking over one of the regular burners. It was the best leg of lamb we have ever had. The outer layer was crisp and beautifully browned, while the interior remained moist and perfectly raw.

Website design By BotEap.comOverall, my husband and I feel this Char-Broil gas grill is a great value and an incredibly good price for its size. However, not everyone needs a large gas grill and buying one that is too large will lead to using more propane than necessary. You can only light one burner to minimize fuel use, but ambient heat tends to be lost in a cookbox this large. This isn’t the best grill for someone who normally only cooks for two people, but it’s a great option for those who often entertain.
