A year later, they were transferred from the AFC West division to NFC Central and Seattle took over their position in the AFC. These loyalty changes were part of the expansion guidelines that made it possible for the two new teams to play against each other twice and against every other NFL team once in just the first two years.

The announcement that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin would be heading to the University of Tennessee came on December 1 and the Bucs lost their momentum and the last 4 games. This left them out of the running for a playoff spot. In 2009, the team is looking for a chance to get back on track and their chances of winning the championship are good. Tickets for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are already in short supply as fans are anticipating another shot at that elusive Super Bowl crown.
