AdSense Privacy Policy Requirements

Website design By BotEap.comIn February 2009, Google instituted a requirement that all AdSense publishers display a privacy policy on any website that uses the features of AdSense products. Whether they display contextual ads or integrate personalized search, not having a privacy policy on a site puts a publisher’s AdSense account at risk of termination. While this may sound harsh, Google takes protecting privacy and maintaining the trust of the general public very seriously, especially when integrating different ad networks into the AdSense system.

Website design By BotEap.comStart with a general privacy policy, like the ones you’ll find on any of the popular business sites like Amazon, eBay, or even Google. The policy should describe what you do with routine web server data, as well as any personally identifiable information such as names and email addresses.

(Cookies are small pieces of data that are left on a user’s computer when visiting a website; web beacons are small, invisible images that are downloaded from a third-party site when a page is loaded.)

Website design By BotEap.comOnce you’ve made the appropriate policy changes, place a copy on all of your AdSense sites or link them all to a central shared policy. The privacy policy should also be prominently displayed on those sites, so users can easily find them and alleviate any privacy concerns they may have.

Website design By BotEap.comPlease note that Google does not provide specific examples of supported privacy policies, nor does it provide specific legal advice on what to put in your policy. All they do is state your requirements, it’s up to you to create a suitable policy. That’s why you’ll usually start by modifying someone else’s already published policy and adapting it to Google’s requirements. (If you rely on a legal firm to develop a policy for your use, be sure to pass on those requirements to them so they can be incorporated into the legal documents they create.)
