Canada, more than just fishing

Website design By BotEap.comIt was that time of year again; time to take the thirteen hour drive for a week long fishing adventure in Canada. My father, uncle and I were leading the way in a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup with my brother and grandfather following close behind. Six in the morning was the first pit stop, breakfast at a truck stop just before starting the nine hour interstate drive to International Falls, MN. Anticipation was always high the entire truck ride to Canada, wondering how many walleye the lake my family has vacationed in for 25 years would produce. Previous fishing trip stories in Canada resonate throughout the truck, we caught more fish in that F-150 than in any body of water, and they were all in the clouds. Many flashbacks occurred on this hike, Canada never let us down when it came to making memories.

Pristine fishing alone can make anyone’s trip one of the most memorable of their lives. With a high density of fish such as Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth Bass, Perch, and Trout in almost every lake, you’ll almost certainly catch more fish than anywhere else.

Website design By BotEap.comCanada also has amazing landscapes like crystal clear, placid lakes, amazing sunsets, rolling green hills, and an abundance of wildlife found nowhere else. On your way to the lodge, it’s not uncommon to see a moose or black bear crossing the road in front of you. Most fishing camps and lodges are very secluded and will have amazing views of wildlife from your front porch.

Website design By BotEap.comA common misconception of fishing lodges in Canada is that they are very old and lack amenities like running water, electricity, air conditioning, television, and other “must haves” when on vacation. Canada still has campgrounds like this if you want to get away from it. all, but most have been upgraded to the normal luxuries of a hotel or resort. Direct TV and wireless Internet are now a service included with your accommodation in most places.

Website design By BotEap.comEven if fishing isn’t for you, you can still find plenty of activities to occupy your time, including hiking, bird watching, water sports, boating, snowmobiling, skiing, and much more. Many of these activities are included in the total cost or are very reasonably priced. If you’ve never been fishing, Canada might be the place to start, head out with a guide for a day and enjoy a “shore lunch” on one of your lake’s many islands. Lunch on the shore is guaranteed to make your mouth water with some of the freshest fish you’ll ever taste.

Website design By BotEap.comIf you are thinking of taking a vacation and want total privacy and relaxation, Canada awaits you with open arms. Take up a new hobby or just relax in the peaceful surroundings of your campsite. Your first trip could lock you in for years to come, just as it has with my family, 25 years and counting.
