Website design By BotEap.comMost of our coaching clients ask us, “How come I keep getting all the things I don’t want in my life?” Oddly enough, the answer is hidden in the question. It all has to do with… pink elephants. Our brain is a very sophisticated machine, with its own way of interpreting the things around us. It turns out that one thing in particular that our brains can’t understand is negative. Every time we hear or use the words “no”, “no” or “no”, the brain simply ignores them and is left with the rest.

Website design By BotEap.comPlease close your eyes and whose think of a pink elephant… dancing… wearing a tutu. What happened? Could you No Think about it? If you’re like everyone I know, you saw the same elephant you were supposed to No Think, even for a brief moment. There is no other way. We need to bring the elephant to mind before we push it.

Website design By BotEap.comOne of my clients, a beautiful 37-year-old woman who looked to be in her 20s, was looking for a partner. “I don’t want those 25-year-olds looking at me,” she said, and sure enough, all the men she attracted were in their 20s. Frustrated, she asked, “Do I walk with a sign?” over my head saying, ‘If you’re 25, talk to me?'” What do you think? If you understand pink elephants, you know she did it. The things we don’t want in life are also the things we bother the most about. we focus on and by doing so, we bring them into our lives, rather than avoiding them.

Website design By BotEap.comParents often describe their children doing the exact opposite of what they are told. Actually, they can’t help it. For example, when a parent says, “Don’t run around the house,” the child hears, “Run around the house.” Can we blame the kid for running? Couldn’t you think of a pink elephant?

Website design By BotEap.comLet’s consider a few other things that will surely sound familiar to you. What do you think your brain remembers every time you pass the highway sign that says “Don’t drink and drive” or “Don’t speed”?

Website design By BotEap.comThink about it: “No smoking” is the best advertisement for smoking. It draws our attention to smoking and continues to reinforce it, because it is everywhere.

Website design By BotEap.comWhat do you think of a nation that uses the expression “don’t worry” in response to almost everything? Are they really not worried at all?

Website design By BotEap.comAn important modern “pink elephant” is the expression “no fat.” How do you explain the increase in the world’s obese population when everyone continues to promote so many “fat-free” diets and products? We focus on the fat and then we fight it. People selling “weight loss” products are actually promoting… weight. If you made that much money selling weight loss products, wouldn’t you do the same?

Website design By BotEap.comNegative attitudes toward work, relationships, business, chores, family, friends, or enemies can be changed by changing your focus.

Website design By BotEap.comStart by asking yourself, “What do I want?” As in any trip, we must first identify the place to which we are going. This gives us direction and guides our daily approach and action.

Website design By BotEap.comOnce we set our goal, the most magical thing happens: suddenly, we start noticing things we’ve never seen before.

Website design By BotEap.comOne of our clients wanted some time to himself in the busy life he led. “I only need 6 hours for myself,” he said. He took it upon himself to record his time by the hour for a week. Surprisingly, he discovered that he was already devoting 16 (!) hours a week to personal activities.

Website design By BotEap.comAnother client wanted to feel loved and appreciated by his wife, claiming that she always wanted him to do things for her and then took his efforts for granted. He decided that he would spend a whole week gathering evidence of his wife’s approval and affection. Do you think he found any? I bet he did, a lot!

Website design By BotEap.comBy concentrating on what you don’t want, you summon “pink elephants” into your thoughts and are in a constant battle with life. And life, after all, is a fascinating journey into oneself. On the back, you can wear flowers or pink elephants… dancing… wearing a tutu.
