Pros and cons of RCA cables

Website design By BotEap.comThe most commonly used cable connector is the RCA connector or Radio Corporation of America connector. These cables are the oldest of their kind and were originally invented to allow the connection of mono jacks to amplifiers. But today it is widely used everywhere in almost every type of audio or visual equipment that we use. RCA cables are also known as clinch connectors or phono cables. They usually have 3 color-coded connectors and 3 color-coded plugs. They started by replacing the TRS connectors first, then taking over most audio equipment, and later being used for video equipment as well. But in Mp3 players, mini TRS connectors are gradually replacing traditional RCA connectors.

The color-coding system for the plugs is also very easy to remember: the red and white or red and black plugs are for audio signals and the yellow one is for video. The good thing about these is that they are cheap and also easily available. Also, most dealers will give you a free set of RCA cable connectors with any kit you buy so you don’t have to buy them separately. For analog audio signals, such as in home theater systems, for surround sound systems, the color codes are gray, brown, and tan. Sometimes for component videos, an extra blue and green plug and socket is also present. But these are more complex to understand and remember, so it’s good to follow the user manual provided by your dealer. Once you get the connections straight, you’ll discover how easy it is to use these connectors.

Website design By BotEap.comThe main disadvantage of these connectors is the color coding system. Colors are hard to take into account, especially in complex systems like component video systems and home theaters. Also, three different cables can become difficult to manage. Low-quality camcorders have only one cable and connector, but this reduces video quality. Companies are trying their best to find a way to combine all the cables into one and still maintain good video quality, but so far there hasn’t been much progress. HDMI connectors are another option over RCA cables that help cover these disadvantages. But RCA cables have been around for a long time, and there’s no way they’re going to be rejected just because of the color-coding issue. Very soon there will be a solution to this minor difficulty and then these cables will have more years before they go out.
