Siamese crocodile: endangered species

Website design By BotEap.comSiamese crocodiles, as defined, are freshwater crocodiles that can generally be found in East Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma, Brunei, Laos, and Cambodia. It has a scientific name “Crocodylus siamensis”, Crocodylus which is derived from the Greek word krokodeilos which means “pebble worm” and siamensis which means “of Siam”. This type of crocodile is considered an endangered species in many regions today.

  • Female Siamese crocodiles can lay their eggs once a year in April or May.
  • There are several common names for this type of crocodile. These include Siam Crocodile, Buaja, Soft-belly, Buaya kodok, Singapore small grain, Siamese freshwater crocodile, and Jara Kaenumchued.
  • Crocodylus siamensis refers to the scientific name for the Siamese crocodile.
  • One of the most valuable reptile skins of this crocodile is its skin, which has small to medium-sized scales with no osteoderms or bony bumps.
  • This wild animal similar to a Siamese lizard prefers to live in slow waters similar to rivers, swamps and some lakes.
  • Most adult Siamese crocodiles do not tend to exceed three (3) meters in length.
  • Siamese freshwater crocodiles are known to eat fish. Perhaps they also capture amphibians and reptiles such as snakes, frogs, small mammals, insects, and other species of small prey. Those in captivity are also fed feathered chickens.
  • Siamese crocodiles have an unknown life expectancy, although male crocodiles mature at 10 years.
  • They are relatively harmless compared to other species of crocodiles. They are unpleasant for humans because they attack only when we start attacking them.
  • Siamese crocodiles are now critically disappearing due to overhunting and habitat loss.
