The tallest big wheel in the world is being built in Beijing in the context of the Olympic Games

Construction of the Beijing Great Wheel, the world’s largest observation wheel, roughly twice the size of the London Eye, begins Monday, November 5, at Chaoyang Park in central Beijing. The Wheel will be built by Shanghai Construction (Group) General Co. and commercial insurance will be provided by Marsh (Beijing) Insurance Brokers Co. Ltd together with Bank of China Insurance Company Limited.

Website design By BotEap.comThe Great Wheel Corporation in connection with AMB Amro and UniCredit Group are providing the financing of almost USD 99 million with the help of German investors in the Global View fund. The technical backbone of the wheel has been provided by the same group of companies that were responsible for the London Eye, the world’s first great observation wheel. Dutch company IV Bouw will provide the engineering for the Beijing Great Wheel, France’s Poma will build the observation pods and Bosch/Rexroth will manufacture the drive and control systems.

Website design By BotEap.comThe Beijing Great Wheel is 208 meters high with a circular operation of about 30 minutes. There are 48 synchronized air-conditioned observation pods fixed on the wheel rim. Each capsule can carry up to 40 passengers. Passengers will be able to experience a fantastic 360 panoramic view of Beijing and beyond. An exciting new terminal will be built to allow passengers to get behind the wheel in a temperature controlled climate and enjoy the many restaurants, bars and shops.
