Google Mum Up Until This Month

Just like the other major search engines, Google is updating its tools and site features on a regular basis. We’ve seen the changes already in January with the introduction of Google Instant and in March we saw the introduction of YouTube Video. However, there’s another update that has been given out by Google yet that is causing quite a stir among users. The Google Mums is the new program aimed at protecting children online.

With this new addition to the Google toolkit, Google is hoping to gain more insight into what your child is doing on their site. Google is hoping to enable parents and guardians to find out if their kids are using inappropriate material on their site. This would give them the ability to block inappropriate sites from being able to gain access to their young ones. While this would obviously be a useful tool, Google would also like to find a way of proving that your child is using appropriate material.

If you’re not familiar with the Mums yet, you’d say that it is simply a tracking tool used to check on how much time a site is being viewed by users. Google has however, gone a step further to introduce a new feature into the Google Mums service where you can actually see what websites your child is viewing. This information would also allow you to know who they are viewing it from.

Is Google Mum Up Until This Month?

What does this mean for parents? If you child only uses one site and you know that there is a problem, then you would know if they are viewing anything inappropriate. Right now, Google is saying that the Mums will only be introduced to sites that are actually actively promoted by Google. This means that if you’re an adult then you wouldn’t automatically be able to view sites that are younger than four years old. However, if you do have an account with Google, then you would still be able to view these sites.

If you were to use any other site apart from Google, then you wouldn’t be able to tell which website your child is viewing. Right now, all you have is this list of approved sites. If you want to check whether or not your child is visiting any other inappropriate sites, then you would have to access their browsing history and search through every single day. You’d say that this is the most tedious and arduous way to do it.

If you’re still unsure of the Google Mum release date, the best solution to it would be to wait a couple of weeks till the official date is out. The reason why I say this is because the official date is only rolled out one at a time. We may find a site approved one day and then black listed the next. That’s how internet marketing works. There are always gray areas where things happen. In addition to this, we can’t really pinpoint a particular date as the release date since there is no set date.
