James Dyson Biography – Founder of Dyson Vacuum Cleaners

Website design By BotEap.comIf you’ve heard of Dyson vacuums, then you’ve heard of James Dyson. Sir James Dyson is the man who invented the Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner. Born in England on May 2, 1947, he is one of the richest men in the world. In 2008, it was estimated that his work was in excess of £1 billion. His invention has revolutionized not only the world of vacuum cleaners but also that of household appliances in general.

Website design By BotEap.comOne of three sons, Dyson was educated at Gresham’s School and was known for excelling in long-distance running. Following this, he spent a year at Byam Shaw School of Art and then studied at the Royal College of Art. While at school, Dyson studied everything from furniture to interior design and engineering. In 1968 he married Deirdre Hindmarsh, with whom he has three children.

His first invention was the ocean truck, which was launched in 1970 and sold for more than half a billion dollars. After this Dyson worked modifying wheelbarrows, making a Ballbarrow, a wheelbarrow that used a ball instead of a wheel). He went on to invent the Trolleyball, a cart that launched boats, and the Wheelboat.

He had the idea to use cyclonic separation for vacuum cleaners so they wouldn’t have to lose suction while cleaning. His idea came about because he was frustrated with his own Hoover vacuum: debris would fill up and clog the bag and then the vacuum would lose suction.

Website design By BotEap.comIn 1983, after five years of development and more than 5,000 prototypes, Dyson launched the G-Force cleaner in Japan through catalogs. His product would not be released in his native UK because distributors and manufacturers did not want to disrupt the market for cleaning bags. In 1991, Dyson received the award of the 1991 International Design Fair in Japan.

Website design By BotEap.comIn 1993 Dyson set up his own manufacturing company and opened a factory and research center in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. By 2005, Dyson vacuum cleaners had become the leading brand in the United States by value.

Website design By BotEap.comDyson researchers created vacuums with high levels of suction power by adding a small diameter cyclone to give the vacuum more centrifugal force. The vacuum sold well because it did not require the user to continually replace the vacuum bags. In 2005, Dyson used his earlier Ballbarrow invention to upgrade Dyson vacuums. He used the concept of this invention to create the Dyson Ball, which is said to make Dyson vacuum cleaners easier to manoeuvre.

In 2003, Dyson introduced the ContraRotator washing machine to the company’s product line. This mechanizes two rotating drums that move in opposite directions. However, the brightly colored machines did not sell well and are no longer sold.

Dyson vacuum cleaners and the company’s other products are among the best known and most popular in the world. The company only continues to expand, and with its popularity come imitators. In fact, Dyson has had to sue other companies for infringement. Even so, the company’s sales continue to grow, and Dyson and his researchers continue to work hard to experiment with new ideas and technologies.
